Debating and Public Speaking
Public Speaking
On Monday, August 4, three Aloysians travelled to Aitken College, Greenvale, for the annual ACS Public Speaking Competition.
The competition comprised four sections: Junior, Intermediate, Senior, and, for the first time, an Impromptu Speech category.
Anirudh Palya Raghu (Year 8), Olivia Sutherland (Year 10), and Fadzai Bako (Year 11) represented us in the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior divisions respectively. Fadzai also participated in the Impromptu category.
The night was highly successful. Both Anirudh and Olivia finished in third place in their divisions. In the Senior division, Fadzai was awarded runner-up. All three are to be congratulated. Each spoke with passion and clarity on the topics listed below this article.
Further congratulations must go to Fadzai, who was named the winner of the Impromptu competition. To prepare a two-minute speech in only four minutes is a daunting task, yet Fadzai handled it with poise—and even managed to fit in a joke or two!
It is wonderful to note that St ¹û¶³APP was the only school to place in all four categories.
We look forward to building on this success in the coming years.
- Anirudh Palya Raghu: The impact of AI in schools
- Olivia Sutherland: The Power of Music
- Fadzai Bako: Hustle Culture (Prepared)
- Fadzai Bako: Discuss a mistake you made that was a blessing in disguise (Impromptu)
Debating
The home and away season of the senior debating season has concluded. For the first time since before covid, St ¹û¶³APP competed in-person at both Coburg Secondary College (Years 9,10 and 12) and St Bernard's (Year 11).
These competitions are more competitive than the online competitions.
Congratulations to all of the teams on their efforts. We managed second place finishes in Year 12, Year 11 and Year 10.
Special congratulations to our other Year 10 team for winning the home and away competition. The students in the team are: Annie-Rose Attard, Gemma Lehane, Olvia Sutherland and Elena Jorquera.
This team commences their playoff run next week at Lowther Hall. We wish them all the best.
